ONTARIO DRUG BENEFITS by Liz
If your child needs a medication that is not covered by ACSD, there is a process you must go through to get it approved. The unfortunate thing is that this process is not usually explained until it's too late, and you've already paid. At that point, you cannot get reimbursed. So here it is, hope it saves somebody the heartache and frustration I've just been through!
Find out ahead of time if the drug prescribed by your doctor is covered under Ontario Drug Benefits (ODB) you can do this by calling the phone number on the back of your drug card. If the drug is *not* covered, ask your doc (before getting the prescription filled) to write to the below address explaining why this drug is necessary, what other drugs (covered) were tried first etc.

This will take 6-8 weeks, so don't get the scrip filled until you get coverage. If approved, you'll get an attachment to your drug card.
This can be helpful if you use a compounding pharmacy as well. Be sure you ask ahead of time if the compounding pharmacy will do third party billing.
